چکیده

We study a discrete time self interacting random process on graphs, which we call Greedy Random Walk. The walker is located initially at some vertex. As time evolves, each vertex maintains the set of adjacent edges touching it that have not been crossed yet by the walker. At each step, the walker being at some vertex, picks an adjacent edge among the edges that have not traversed thus far according to some (deterministic or randomized) rule. If all the adjacent edges have already been traversed, then an adjacent edge is chosen uniformly at random. After picking an edge the walk jumps along it to the neighboring vertex. We show that the expected edge cover time of the greedy random walk is linear in the number of edges for certain natural families of graphs. Examples of such graphs include the complete graph, even degree expanders of logarithmic girth, and the hypercube graph. We also show that GRW is transient in Z for all d ≥ 3.

Random-walk domination in large graphs: problem definitions and fast solutions

We introduce and formulate two types of random-walk domination problems in graphs motivated by a number of applications in practice (e.g., item-placement problem in online social network, Ads-placement problem in advertisement networks, and resourceplacement problem in P2P networks). Specifically, given a graph G, the goal of the first type of random-walk domination problem is to target k nodes...

Winning quick and dirty: the greedy random walk

As a strategy to complete games quickly, we investigate one-dimensional random walks where the step length increases deterministically upon each return to the origin. When the step length after the kth return equals k, the displacement of the walk x grows linearly in time. Asymptotically, the probability distribution of displacements is a purely exponentially decaying function of |x|/t . The pr...

Planning Via Random Walk-Driven Local Search

The ideas of local search and random walks have been used successfully in several recent satisficing planners. Random Walk-Driven Local Search (RW-LS) is a strong new addition to this family of planning algorithms. The method uses a greedy best-first search driven by a combination of random walks and direct node evaluation. In this way, RW-LS balances between exploration and exploitation. The a...

Towards a Second Generation Random Walk Planner: An Experimental Exploration

Random walks have become a popular component of recent planning systems. The increased exploration is a valuable addition to more exploitative search methods such as Greedy Best First Search (GBFS). A number of successful planners which incorporate random walks have been built. The work presented here aims to exploit the experience gained from building those systems. It begins a systematic stud...

Greedy adaptive walks on a correlated fitness landscape.

We study adaptation of a haploid asexual population on a fitness landscape defined over binary genotype sequences of length L. We consider greedy adaptive walks in which the population moves to the fittest among all single mutant neighbors of the current genotype until a local fitness maximum is reached. The landscape is of the rough mount Fuji type, which means that the fitness value assigned ...
